Family Fulgoridae: Lanternflies & Planthoppers
The most distinctive feature of many family members are the long head which may be very strangely shaped. They also have piercing-sucking mouth parts and the antennae directly beneath the eyes on the side of the head. At rest, fulgorids blend into their surroundings and if they are disturbed, the eye spots can be flashed to deter predators.
