The Vervet has adapted to all wooded habitats and are almost completely absent from open grassland and scrub. They are diurnal and gregarious, and live in small troops of up to 40 individuals. There is a clear order of dominance within a group. The most common method to show dominance is eyelid display which permits the alpha male to maintain rank order. Although Vervets are predominantly vegetarians, consuming most available fruits, seeds, seedpods, flowers and various herbs and grasses, they will on occasion eat invertebrates and small vertebrates.
