'Lucy' The sacrum, 1/2 pelvis and femur (2 parts) were discovered by Donald Johanson in 1974 in Ethiopia. They are from the well known "Lucy" skeleton. Australopithecus afarensis is considered the first human. (This is now being challenged by the discovery of Kenyanthropus, described in 2001 by Leaky.) These reconstructions are based on the latest scientific data including photos, descriptions and casts of original bones.
