This jaw was discovered by Donald Johanson in 1974 in Ethiopia. It belongs to the well known "Lucy" skeleton. Australopithecus afarensis is considered the first human. (This is now being challenged by the discovery of Kenyanthropus, described in 2001 by Leaky.) This reconstruction is based on the latest scientific data including photos, descriptions and casts of original bones.
