This fascinating group of predatory insects occurs throughout the tropics and in many of the sunny temperate zones of the world. The common name "Praying Mantis" is derived from the distinctive way in which the front legs are held up and together, as if in prayer.
Praying Mantids are carnivorous and are excellent hunters. They feed upon insects and even vertebrates such as frogs and lizards. Typically they catch their prey with their powerful forelegs and then devour them. A hungry Mantid is capable of holding its first victim in one forelimb while striking and catching a second with its other. 3 Items found - Viewing Page 1 of 1
