This order is organized into 101 families having some 40,000 species. They are distinguished by their general appearance and their ability to spin silk thread and make webs. Most species have eight simple eyes, but some species have six, four, or two eyes, or none at all.
Almost all species inject venom to kill or paralyze their victims. When feeding, the body tissue of its prey is dissolved by enzymes in the spider's digestive juices, producing a liquid that it then sucks up.
Spider's are found in almost every terrestrial habitat from deserts to mountain peaks.
